The Christian and the Trans-_________.
Today’s Christian is faced with an ever increased assault on God’s design that is encompassed by a number of terms that start with Trans-_______. Let’s be super clear here. This topic is NOT about acceptable people. It IS about acceptable behavior. The list of clearly un-biblical behavior declared by culture as acceptable continues to grow with no end in sight. And no wonder when Hollywood has more impact than does the Church. How does the Christian Politician respond and deal with these issues?
First, remember that you are ultimately accountable to God for what you say and do. Your response to this issue must first be Bible-based before any other considerations come into play. For far too long the Christian has yielded to feelings and emotional pleas and has sacrificed God’s standards. It is now time to take a stand.
Some readers will probably need a glossary of terms, definitions, and examples–I know I did. Most of these terms have been in existence in psychologist circles for years. The World has devolved to the point where the common person now needs to be aware of them. The definitions are simplistic web-based search results.
Homosexual: Sexually attracted to people of one’s own sex.
Bisexual: Sexually attracted to both men and women.
Pansexual: Not limited in sexual choice with regard to biological sex, gender, or gender identify. Sex with anybody, anytime.
Transgender, Transexual, and Gender-Identity: A person who emotionally and psychologically feels that they belong to the opposite sex.
Example: See the tragic life of Bruce Jenner (now called Caitlyn Jenner)Example: https://www.yahoo.com/health/miley-cyrus-identifies-as-pansexual-what-does-127797473807.html
Transvestite: A person, typically a man, who derives pleasure from dressing in clothes appropriate to the opposite sex.
Transracial (Racial Identity): A person who is born to one race, but makes the decision to become or represent themselves as another race.
Transager: A person who is a certain age but makes the decision to not accept or act their actual age. Do NOT confuse this with immaturity…
Transabled: From the following article, “We define transability as the desire or need for a person identified as able-bodied by other people to transform his or her body to obtain a physical impairment.” In other words, a person is completely able but chooses to be disabled.
Transspecies: A person who choses and makes a decision to represent themselves as another species.
WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW AND REMEMBER
Point 1: Each of the above behaviors and choices has one common starting point, the denial or rejection of their God-given and God-designed state. God is clear about the sinful nature of each of the above.
God knit you together in your mother’s womb. God does not make mistakes. Each of the Trans-_____ issues IS a choice (with a few extremely rare exceptions). Everyday we face choices that define what our eternity is going to be like. We are defined by how we deal with feelings and temptations that move us away from God’s perfect design…away from God.
Psalm 139:13-16 Declares “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”
Point 2 : God wants all to find salvation. He has called the church to reach the lost. We reach the lost by treating everybody fairly and equally.
God often gives me the opportunity to practice what I preach. A previous neighbor was gay and had a son. There is a transvestite where I work to whom I often talk to. I have worked with homosexual volunteers at a church outreach event. In each of these circumstances, the people live and practice a lifestyle that is not in alignment with God’s standards and, as such, I stand in opposition to their lifestyles. However, each of these people would not feel as if I reject them as a person. Indeed, my treatment of them is the same as I would treat any other child of God.
God does not ask you to sacrifice his standards to reach the lost. Jesus did not change His gospel message as he dined and hung out with the tax collectors and sinners. You do not have to sell out your Christian convictions to love a sinner. The challenge is to ALWAYS see through and beyond the behavior and see the child of God. This can be difficult, but here is a simple hint. Look them in the eyes. Once you allow yourself to make eye contact, God’s creation comes through. God will let you see them how he sees them; as a beautiful creation marred and damaged by the World and worth the effort to save. We were all in this condition at one time!
John 3: 16-21 States “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”
Romans 10: 11-16a reminds us “As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? 15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” But not everyone welcomes the Good News…”
Point 3: Separate the Person and the Behavior
You CAN love and accept the person WITHOUT condoning the behavior.
Stated another way–you don’t have to accept immoral behavior to accept the person.
Still not clear? You can love the person AND hate the sin!
Point 4: Every law is an attempt to legislate morality (or immorality).
The Christian must reject, in total, any statement that says you cannot legislation morality. Challenge the person who makes that statement to find a single law that does NOT try to compel a certain behavior within some set of parameters.
Recognize this argument is most often used in an attempt to state that one position is being forced upon another. See through this argument to discover what position they are coming from. Discover the position they are trying to place unto you. Every law is an attempt to legislate morality or immorality.
Point 5: Some practical observations; countering objections.
Argument 1: All men are created equal.
False Argument: Acceptable behavior is NOT an equality issue!
Response: True, all men are created equal. However acceptable behavior IS NOT an equality of person issue. Again, to allow and condone (thereby encouraging) immoral behavior is not an equality issue; it is a morality issue.
Argument 2: Fear and ignorance. You will often phrases referencing “fear” and “ignorance” of trans-_____ people.
False Argument: This is simply an attack and bullying tactic.
Response: Because someone does not support a behavior does NOT mean they fear it nor does it mean they are ignorant. This argument could also be countered with the observation that their position seems to be based on a moral ignorance or an outright denial that there is such thing as a moral standard and commonly acceptable behavior.
WHY DOES THIS MATTER? WHAT ARE THE POLICY EFFECTS?
The purpose of Government, according to the Bible, is to maintain order according to what is considered acceptable behavior. This works well when lawmakers, policy creators, and rule making bodies understand what acceptable behavior is and Who defines it.
Anti-discrimination policies have traditionally protected race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, and physical disability. All of these, outside of creed and religion, are physical traits that were not meant to be altered; they are all God designed. Recently, anti-discrimination policies have been expanded outside of physical traits and into protecting what has always been declared, and rightly so in light of God’s Word, unacceptable behavior. This expansion is specifically targeted towards one un-biblical behavior encompassed in “sexual orientation” (which encompasses heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality, gender expression, gender identity) was added to protected classes.
Now, for the first time, there are significant conflicts between protected classes. What happens when religious convictions meet “gender expression”? What trumps the other? Trends would say “gender expression” wins over religious conviction. Religious freedom was foundational to the establishment of our Nation; but it now in position to be lost as a result of redefining what is acceptable behavior.
For years, the acceptance of Sexual Orientation-related behavior was justified to the Christian by the phrase “This doesn’t affect you personally.” The issue of sexual orientation has now been forced into everyone’s lives.
Practical Implications in the News
Family-value organizations (Family Research Council, American Family Association, Family Policy Institutes, etc.) can provide a list of consequences that continue to flow from the recent Supreme Court decision to legalize gay marriage. Just a few examples include: Businesses are forced to provide service counter to their religious values or face massive fines and potential jail time. A Court Clerk was jailed for her refusal to issue marriage licenses in conflict to her beliefs. The list is long and continues to grow. Parents, watch closely what your children are indoctrinated with at school.
Below are two specific issues where the boundary of acceptable behavior is being pushed further.
The Federal Government has threatened to take away Federal funding from a High School unless it allows a trans-gender boy to use the girls locker room. A male, identifying as a women, using the same locker room as teenage girls. What’s the harm in that, right? Many progressives would say, exactly, what’s the harm? http://dailysignal.com/2015/12/21/why-these-high-school-girls-dont-want-transgender-student-a-in-their-locker-room/
Because of a change to Washington State rules made by an unelected Commission, the local YMCA has been forced to change its policy to allow transgender people to choose which locker room they wish to use; regardless of what actual men and women prefer. If a man wants to identify as a women and use the women’s locker room, my wife couldn’t object to this! And this at an organization called the YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association)!! http://q13fox.com/2015/12/16/new-pierce-kitsap-ymca-policy-change-for-transgender-members-raises-concern/
An effort to remedy this is underway in the Washington State legislation through HB 2589. Unfortunately, the legislation is likely to be blocked by a single LGBT activist who is the chair of the Washington State House of Representatives Judicial Committee. One wonders if this female LGBT supporter is really a supporter of having males in the locker room or bathroom with her. I wonder if, in her zealous redefinition of moral standards, she has not painted herself into a very uncomfortable corner. Can enough people expressing their concern soften her heart? Let’s find out! Contact Representative Laurie Jinkins at (360) 786-7930 and request that she allow HB 2589 to have a Committee hearing.
WHERE AND HOW WILL IT STOP?
The Christian has been and continues to be the only one able to stand for God’s standards.
- The Christian Politician CAN and MUST take the Biblically-correct stand as to what the limit is as to what is considered as acceptable behavior.
- Be Biblically-correct NOT politically-correct.
- The individual Christian must hold their Christian Politicians accountable
- Pray for your legislative representatives.
- Communicate your belief and interests. Legislation is effected by the small group that speaks the loudest!
- Support your Christian legislator. Let them know you have their back.
- Run for office if God’s calls you to do so; especially if you do not have any Christian politicians representing you.
Our nation is desperate for the Christian and the Church to perform their duty to stand for God’s righteous standards.
“This is my command–be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
